The “Promoting Holistic and Inclusive Developmental Support in Early Childhood in Mongolia” project kicks-off

Save the Children in Mongolia started implementing the “Promoting Holistic and Inclusive Developmental Support in Early Childhood in Mongolia” project, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, from March 30, 2024 onwards. The kick-off meeting for the project was held on May 2, 2024, at the Mongol-Japan center in Ulaanbaatar. It was attended by the representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Municipal Department of Education and Municipal Department of Health, as well as members of the diagnosis committee of children with disabilities from the target districts. Also, directors, representatives of the doctors, and teachers of “Achlahui”, “Eeltei”, “Enerengui  Uilst” Family Health Centers, Kindergarten No. 32, 18, and 117 of Bayanzurkh, Songinokhairkhan, and Bayanzurkh districts of Ulaanbaatar participated in the meeting.

                                  

In her opening speech, Ms. Eri Nomoto, the project manager said, “This project aims to identify children at risk due to delays in development or disabilities in early childhood in three districts of Ulaanbaatar city, as well as in Bayankhongor and Selenge provinces, and to intervene appropriately in due course. Through respecting the rights of children with disabilities and establishing a comprehensive developmental support system, we aim to contribute to creating a more inclusive society”. During the meeting, the participants were introduced to the project, its objectives and planned activities.

                                

At the end of the meeting, Ms. Eri Nomoto, the project manager and the directors of the target Kindergartens and Family Health Centers signed a Memorandum of Understanding, defining the activities to be carried out within the project, mutual rights, and obligations.

The goal of this project is to identify developmental problems in young children as early as possible in the Chingeltei, Bayanzurh, Songinokhairkhan districts and Bayankhongor and Selenge provinces of Mongolia and to offer them holistic support and needs-based intervention.
