Funders visit ongoing “Establishing School-Based Child Protection Mechanism in Mongolia” project and learning the outcomes

– Meetings with Project Stakeholders and Beneficiaries –

Save the Children has been implementing the “Establishing School-based Child Protection Mechanism in Mongolia” project over a three-year period, beginning in 2023 with funding from Save the Children Hong Kong. Representatives of the funding organization are visiting Mongolia from April 20-27, 2025.

Helen I’Anson, Director of International Programmes, Lilian Tong, Senior International Programme Officer, Kevin Lau, Domestic Programme Manager and Alison Hui, Assistant Digital Marketing Manager from Save the Children Hong Kong will meet with project stakeholders and beneficiaries in Ulaanbaatar and rural areas to learn about the results on target schools and MDT members. Also, they will meet with the leadership team and the project staff of Save the Children Mongolia to discuss achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and future collaboration. Funders met with Save the Children Mongolia staff on April 21, 2025, and learned about the ongoing projects.

They met with Kh.Batjargal, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education. The Ministry of Education staff participated in the meeting and presented the cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Save the Children Mongolia, the implementation process of the “Establishing School-based Child Protection Mechanism in Mongolia” project, and how to further disseminate the results. The Ministry of Education plans to conduct training to strengthen the capacity of social workers nationwide and through this   to disseminate the project results. The project was recognized as key foundation for schools to work with local organizations and connect joint team services with schools.

Teachers, school staff and MDT team of School No.33 in the capital city met with representatives of the project funders to discuss the project’s results, current challenges, and future opportunities. Representatives of the project implementing unit of School No. 33 in Bayanzurkh District, students, parents, and the joint team of the 3rd khoroo presented the project results to the funders and answered their questions.

Following this, the delegation of funders visited School No. 58 in Sukhbaatar district, to see the project implementation process and listened to and spoke with social workers, parents and secondary school students. Also visited classrooms and observed some teaching process. The school is different from other schools because it is located in the middle of a Ger district.

The funders also reviewed the activities of Khoroo 15 of Sukhbaatar district. The khoroo`s managers spoke about how their capacity have been improved by participating in trainings organized by the project team, and how the joint team activities of the Khoroo and the school have become unified and share experiences and knowledge.

The “Establishing School-Based Child Protection Mechanism in Mongolia” project is being implemented in 14 secondary schools and 14 Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDT) in the Khan-Uul, Bayangol, Chingeltei, Sukhbaatar, Bayanzurkh districts of Ulaanbaatar city, as well as in Gobi-Altai and Khovd aimags. Beneficiaries include public school teachers, staff, students, parents, caregivers, members of Multi-Disciplinary Teams. Key focus is on creating model practices that facilitate robust coordination and supervision between schools and development of l child protection mechanisms, addressing prevention, early identification, and responses.
