Meeting to Expand Cooperation Between the Ministry of Education of Mongolia and Save the Children
(November 17–18, 2025, Melbourne, Australia) A high-level meeting between the Ministry of Education of Mongolia, Save the Children in Mongolia, and Save the Children Australia was successfully held in Melbourne on November 17-18, 2025.
The meeting was attended by Kh.Batjargal, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, L.Bayan-Altai, Country Manager of Save the Children in Mongolia, Mat Tinkler, Chief Executive Officer of Save the Children Australia, Francis Woods, Group Executive Director, International Programs, Jason Tither, Partnership Manager and Kristian Fromyhr, Senior Manager, Business Development and Resource Mobilization.
The parties discussed the implementation of the Enabling Equity to Advance Learning (EQUAL) project, funded by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), the project’s successes and tangible results. They also exchanged views on further cooperation in Mongolia’s education sector and on the potential implementation of new projects and programs. Save the Children Australia served as the project’s financial coordinator, while Save the Children in Mongolia and the Ministry of Education jointly implemented it.

State Secretary Kh.Batjargal expressed his gratitude to Save the Children International for its collaboration on the EQUAL project, noting its significant contribution to supporting inclusive and equitable education in Mongolia.
Mat Tinkler, Chief Executive Officer of Save the Children Australia, thanked the Mongolian delegation for their visit and emphasized: “The EQUAL project has been a successful initiative in supporting inclusive education in Mongolia. The tripartite partnership has been a key element of this project’s success. We look forward to continuing to work with the Mongolian government in the education sector.”
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on expanding future cooperation in the following areas:
- Submitting a joint project to the Global Partnership for Education in 2026
- Increasing private sector participation, innovation, and digital learning in the education sector
- Implementing new initiatives to improve services for children with disabilities
- Strengthening long-term strategic partnerships between bilateral organizations
Presenting the results of the EQUAL project, L.Bayan-Altai, Country Manager of Save the Children in Mongolia, noted: “This project has provided tangible support to more than 221,000 children in 148 secondary schools nationwide in the areas of inclusive education, school lunch programs, and blended learning. We focused on creating equitable and accessible environments in local schools, strengthening teacher capacity, and disseminating methodologies that meet the needs of each child. This success is the result of close cooperation between the Ministry of Education, Save the Children in Mongolia, and Save the Children Australia.”
The meeting marked an important step forward in strengthening cooperation in the education sector between Mongolian and Australian institutions and in improving access to quality education for every child.
