Save the Children (SC) is one of the leading international organizations for children in need. Working in 120 countries, we fight for children’s rights and help them fulfill their potential. Having started its operations in Mongolia in 1994, SC currently works in Ulaanbaatar and seven provinces, implementing projects in Child Protection, Child Rights Governance, Child Poverty, Education, and Health areas.
We are beginning to implement “My Forest Child”, a project funded by SC Korea (SCK) to address the impact of climate change in Mongolia. Focused in Nalaikh District of Ulaanbaatar, the project aims to improve the awareness of climate change and its effects among the local people and conduct afforestation activities in the area. We are seeking two highly qualified individuals to work as Project Coordinator and Communications Officer for the new Project. About the Project Coordinator
Under supervision of the Country Manager (CM), the Project Coordinator will carry out the following tasks and ensure the effective implementation of the project.
- Plan and implement project activities on daily basis, build effective communication with partners and the donor, monitor the progress of the deliverables against the work plan, and suggest and adapt to the project current needs.
- Closely work with the local government in planning, executing afforestation activities and ensure that relevant laws and regulations are strictly followed.
- Plan and coordinate the community engagement in planting and growing trees and organize workshops and activities on climate change education for target communities.
- Coordinate the development and review of all relevant project implementation materials and guidelines with the technical consultants.
- Lead the creation of training contents and maintain an understanding of climate change knowledge development for youth, children, and local residents.
- Plan and arrange field visits, gather information, and assist with conduct related surveys (feasibility study, MEAL survey etc).
- Collaborate with the administration and procurement staff to clearly define and coordinate the project’s supply needs for planting preparation.
- Develop and submit project and work reports in accordance with SC Mongolia and donor standards and requirements.
- Collaborate and coordinate with local government agencies, external partners, and donors at the field and national level
- Any other duties as assigned by the Country Manager.
Requirements
University degree in agronomy, environment, natural resources management, climate change or relevant field
- At least five years` experience in afforestation related programs or the agricultural sector
- Applied experience in managing project, writing reports, and engaging stakeholders.
- Good understanding of plantation, community forests, climate change, and environmental protection.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work as a team
- Willing to travel and work in the field, as required
- Advanced written and spoken skills in English and Mongolian
- Working knowledge of Korean is an advantage
About Communications Officer
Under the general guidance of the Country Manager, and the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Communications Officer is responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring the communications, campaigns and media related activities of the MFC project. Main responsibilities of the post include:
- Plan, implement and monitor the communications, campaigns and media related activities and interventions for the
- Develop and execute a social media strategy, creates social media content in line with the editorial calendar.
- Build on and maintain relationship with the donors, local stakeholders, school staff, children, youth and
- Prepare press releases, news articles, case studies and impact stories.
- Pitch stories, blogs, and news to mainstream media.
- Frequently visit the project site and take photographs and videos of events, training and other important events
- Maintains media and communications data bases
- Contribute to development and production of organization’s advocacy and communication materials (Newsletters, collaterals, films, videos, audio-visuals, print, etc.) ensuring the alignment with SC’s brand guidelines
Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in media, communications, journalism, public relations, international relations or a related discipline.
- At least three years of working experience in a similar role.
- Applied experience with photography, Canva, FB & IG reel making etc.
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English and Mongolian
- Attention to details and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
- Previous work experience with children is an asset
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues
