ESEL program teachers prepared for TVET schools
Entrepreneurship-focused socioemotional learning (ESEL) training program has become a part of the core curriculum of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes across the country in accordance with the Minister of Education and Science resolution No.A/278, dated June 28, 2023. The initial two training phases of ESEL Trainers of Training (ToT) were effectively organized through U-TVET on-line learning management system and webinar, jointly by General Authority for Education (GEA) and Save the Children (SCJ) from May 21 to 31, 2024.
During the e-learning sessions, participating teachers were engaged in thorough learning of the ESEL curriculum, both teacher’s and student manuals. They gained insights into knowledge, skills, and mindsets that student should acquire for each competency element, focusing on content, coherence, and performance criteria. Additionally, teachers have completed 10 types of individual and group assignments after thorough review of each manual.
Following the e-learning sessions, a webinar was conducted on June 04-05, focusing on introducing the learning theory and methodology of the ESEL curriculum. During the webinar, teachers were equiped with knowledge on the ESEL training framework, methodology and key learning concepts, and received answers for their questions. A total of 130 teachers from 46 Polytechnic colleges and TVET institutions across all 21 provinces and 8 districts of Ulaanbaatar actively participated in this two-phased e-learning training.

Koji Miyamoto, World Bank (WB) Senior economist and Task Team Leader said about the importance of ESEL, “In the future, it is essential to incorporate ESEL teaching methods into in-service training programs for secondary school teachers. For instance, in countries such as United States and Singapore, which excel in education quality, participation in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) training is part of the teaching requirements. Developing social and emotional skills significantly contributes to student’s academic success”.
GAE will organize the 3rd phase training for ESEL program teachers on August 21-23, 2024 in Ulaanbaatar. As a result, the ESEL program can be implemented in the Polytechnic colleges and TVET institutions starting the 2024-2025 academic year.
