STAND AGAINST CHILD POVERTY

The Child Poverty Program focuses on improving self-esteem and confidence in boys and girls living below the poverty line by enabling them to become financially capable. Save the Children puts children and young people at the heart of its action to reduce poverty by building their capacity to increase low and insecure incomes that prevent children from surviving, learning and being safe.

"BEST" Business Education and Skills Training

The "BEST" program is developing a prototype to support high-quality learning for children and adolescents in local business, entrepreneurship and vocational skills that will contribute to the promotion and diversification of the local economy and the reduction of poverty in Mongolia. The "BEST" program primarily targets the most marginalized adolescents (aged between 13 and 19) living in both urban and rural areas of Mongolia. The program also encourages innovative ideas for using community and school facilities as resources for ‘earning by  learning’ for the students.

Program achievement:

Save the Children with its partner – “Development Solutions” NGO has implemented the “Youth Business Mongolia” initiative in 2017, which provides an youth entrepreneurship support package including training, start-up financing and mentoring to under-served youth in Mongolia.

In this initiative, we organized piloting entrepreneurship training for high school students. At the end of the initiative, National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge was organized from which three teams participated in the Global Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge 2017. This is the first time Mongolian high school students participated the global scale entrepreneurship competition ever.

Our students competed with other 13 teams from Asia, Europe, North America and South America. During 12 hours of competition, students from the BEST training managed to develop a Business Plan from the scratch, produced three-minute video presentation and 3D prototype model of their business idea.

It gave an opportunity of Mongolian high school students to solve a significant global issue through an innovative and sustainable enterprise idea.
