Nyam-Ochir, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, who delivered remarks on &#8220;The Tradition and Future of Environmental Education.&#8221; The main panel featured Sh. Batbayar, State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change; Myounghwa Hwang, Global Program Director at Save the Children Korea; L. Bayan-Altai, Country Manager of Save the Children Mongolia; H. Otgonbaatar, Director of the National Institute for Educational Research; Ts. Soyol-Erdene, Professor at the National University of Mongolia; and G. Dondogdulam, a student at Berkh School with an International Programme in Khentii Province and participant in the Teach for Mongolia programme.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The voices of children and youth were a central part of the event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ts. Bayasgalan, a student at Golomt School in Nalaikh District, raised the issue of how dust pollution in Nalaikh District affects the learning environment. B. Bayar-Erdene, a student at School No. 109, spoke about the issue of multiple unplanned roads in his local community, Erdene soum, Tuv province. E. Altantuya, a student at Erdmiin Dalai School in Dundgovi Province, shared her views on how frequent severe dust storms affect her life and learning conditions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The event also discussed opportunities to strengthen environmental and climate education policies, curricula, teacher capacity, green schools, green skills, and school-community cooperation. Participants also emphasized the importance of linking post-COP17 cooperation, partnerships, and technical and financial support with concrete action, and of strengthening the role of education in land restoration and in building the resilience of local communities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As part of the development of the position paper, Save the Children held consultations with children and young people in five rural and urban areas of Mongolia to ensure that their voices were reflected. The consultations listened to and documented how children and young people experience environmental change and what needs and opportunities they identify in relation to environmental education, skills and participation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The findings from these consultations were reflected in the position paper.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23524 \" src=\"https:\/\/savethechildren.mn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_0148.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"581\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/savethechildren.mn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_0148.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/savethechildren.mn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_0148-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/savethechildren.mn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_0148-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/savethechildren.mn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_0148-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 581px) 100vw, 581px\" \/> \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23526 \" src=\"https:\/\/savethechildren.mn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_0199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"386\" srcset=\"https:\/\/savethechildren.mn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_0199.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/savethechildren.mn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_0199-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/savethechildren.mn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_0199-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/savethechildren.mn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_0199-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Ministry of Education and Save the Children called on UNCCD Parties and the international community to intensify joint action in the following three areas:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.Invest in environmental and climate education at all levels of education<\/strong> &#8211; combining traditional and modern knowledge with practical action to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills of children and youth;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.Ensure the meaningful participation of children and youth<\/strong> &#8211; establish mechanisms that enable children and young people to participate meaningfully in the planning and implementation of environmental education policies, programmes and activities;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.Increase financing for green skills, learning environments, innovation and green entrepreneurship<\/strong> &#8211; making these opportunities particularly accessible to adolescents, youth and women.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the face of interconnected challenges such as environmental degradation, climate change, desertification and water scarcity, education is not only a means of imparting knowledge, but also a long-term solution for changing attitudes, behaviours and practical skills and strengthening community participation.
